Louis yearned to play the flute one more time, but being diagnosed with end stage Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) made achieving his dream a challenge, especially since his flute was in the shop for repairs. That didn’t stop Taryn, Seasons Connecticut Music Therapist, from fulfilling Louis’s wish. She had researched several options, ranging from buying a used flute to paying for Louis’s flute to be repaired, when out of the blue, Chaplain Karen Hale told her, “My son has a flute under his bed that is just sitting there.” Karen brought the flute to the office and Taryn, with a spring in her step and hum in her throat, left for Louis’s house with flute in hand.
At first, Louis had a hard time playing the flute, but he wouldn’t quit practicing. Eventually he made that flute sing! Music therapy gave Louis something to look forward to every week. Thank you Taryn for your determination to provide the perfect end of life experience for Louis!
