The volunteers at Seasons Hospice enjoy their jobs and know there is true value in the services they provide to our patients and their families. Here are a few of the kind words they've sent recently:

"Volunteering in hospice has not changed me, but rather made me better at being who I am. I've learned so much more about living and caring, and I've also learned a lot about myself. We do this for love, but we also do this for ourselves." ~ Jane

"Serving as a pediatric home-care volunteer is a shared journey of love and respect traveled by the child, the family, and the volunteer." ~ Pat

"One hour a week might not change the world, but it can show a person how much you care." ~ Jill

"Being a volunteer for Seasons Hospice has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As a volunteer I feel humbled when patients share their stories of their entire life with me. With their families they don't necessarily do this because they have always lived with them, but as a volunteer they can share with you some of the happiest times, and some of the saddest times. These are things we all hope we can do before we leave this world. I always feel when I leave a patients room that I have enhanced their life somehow, and I know they have enhanced mine. I have given them the chance to "re-live" their lives." ~ Diane

"I didn't know you did that"... How often I have heard those words....

Yes! I am a hospice volunteer!

It begins with the volunteer training weekend. Here you will have an opportunity to better understand the dying experience, but most important find comfort if you have lost a loved one. If you follow the footsteps of a hospice volunteer - whether that person is retired, has a full time career, stay at home parent or student, you will see that even with other commitments in their lives, a small period of time is allotted for a hospice patient. This is a very different kind of commitment. With each patient you visit you will have a better understanding of life, the satisfaction of giving to others and yourself. I just returned from an out of town visit with my uncle that is in the last phase of his life. I have done this so many times for others; I was a tremendous help to him and our family. I am so very sad but I was equipped with the necessary skills. During my time volunteering with Seasons Hospice, I have been supported every step of the way. I have learned so much from the teams that are always just a phone call away.

I never freely disclose this part of my life; it is a special time I share with those in need. But it is just a matter of time before you will hear, "Can I talk to you for a minute?" ~ June
